New Tipping Feature on Uber App
For a long time, Lyft has offered ride-sharing passengers the ability to tip their Lyft drivers. For this reason you’ll hear many drivers, who use both Uber and Lyft, say that they prefer Lyft because they tend to make more money per ride, but feel forced to use Uber because of the higher volume of ride-sharing requests from potential fares.
In a move that will make Uber drivers happy, Uber passengers will soon have the ability to tip their Uber drivers for a positive ridesharing experience.
In addition, Uber will now feature a shorter passenger-cancellation window. Previously, a prospective Uber passenger could request a ride and had 5 minutes to cancel without having to pay a surcharge. Now, after two minutes, if a ride is cancelled, the canceller will be charged a fee.
Uber Driver Robs Passenger Near Tampa, FL
Bad news for Uber near Tampa, FL. An Uber driver accused two passengers of not paying, started peeling out in anger, and eventually the Uber driver robbed the ridesharing passenger by ripping a gold necklace off of one of the Uber passengers and drove away. Clearwater police were summoned and confirmed that the Uber driver had, in fact, been paid and charged the Uber driver with a second-degree strong-arm robbery felony.
Uber confirmed that the driver was removed from the app, pending investigation.
A background check on the Uber driver showed that he was about to have his license suspended for multiple moving violations. Questions remain as to whether the Uber background check procedure meets with industry standards. We know that a more rigorous background check will be conducted on Uber drivers starting on July 1, 2017.
Miami Uber Driver Fined For Not Speaking English
On June 18, 2017, a female Uber driver was cited for violating a law that ride-share drivers be able to communicate in English. It should be noted this is not an Uber rule, but a Miami-Dade county ordinance signed into law in May of 2016. On July 1, 2017, HB-221 will significantly limit a county or municipality’s ability to regulate ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyft so, ostensibly, the Uber driver doesn’t have to learn English to continue driving.
Uber CEO Travis Kalanick Ousted
By now, everyone has heard that the rude and crude CEO of Uber has been forced out by some of the corporation’s more prominent investors. But a CNBC article points out that the inner-workings of the Uber corporate environment are of little concern to everyday Uber passengers – who only really care about the convenience and expense of the Uber ride.
Florida Uber and Lyft drivers are much more concerned about how the new Florida ridesharing law will impact them.
